    The North South divide

Living in Hampstead is all very well

    But nothing compares to Camberwell.

Less green, less trendy, and much less pretty

More mean streets and much more gritty.

It's all well and good to big up the North

With its tubes and its hills and Arsenal support.

But where it its street life, the gab and the chatter?

Where are the pies and the eels and the liqueur?

Sure, in both places "characters" bound

But differences they are most truly profound

Hampstead is clean, green and not rough

It has its own heath, its own pools and such stuff.

    Famous people do there abound

Posh cars and posh houses there can be found.

But what of the street banter and cool jokes as well

Can tired old H compare with Camberwell?

The streets they are grimey, with rubbish they're strewn

And strolling down there is OK at high noon

But once it gets dark the yout's they appear

Laughing and jesting with ganga and beer.

But give it to me any day of the week

    It's Camberwell's vistas and people I seek.
